Freeride competitions
are spectaculare extreme events held on ungroomed slopes, with one or more starting gates and ending at a single finish line. In these competitions, men and women compete on freeride skis and snowboards, demonstrating their creativity and fearlessness planning and executing descents on untouched terrain.
They use cliffs, rocks, and couloirs in their run, usually performingjumps, high-speed passages in narrow places and executing tricks to impress thejudges. The competitor's run is judged by apanel of judges, with each judgeresponsible for evaluating their component. The International Committee hasdefined 5 components of the run:
⦁Line
⦁Air &style
⦁Fluidity
⦁Control
⦁Technique

The time component is not taken into account.Based on the evaluation and the overall impression of the run, final scores are given, thus determining the order of the competition's final standings. Usually, competitions consist of two runs, a qualifying run and a final run, held in different areas, and may beheld over one or two days, depending on the number of participants and weather conditions. However, they can also consist of just one evaluated run.

The event can be held within the resort area, with access provided forspectators and fans, to increase the visual appeal attendance at the resort.
In the event of a large number of interested participants, it isrecommended to separate the starting and finishing lists into amateurs andprofessionals, depending on how they assess their riding level and theirambitions.
With significant interest from the younger generation, junior categoriesmay be added, with the provision that their runs take place on a simpler andsafer slope.
Preliminary warm-up runs on the competition day are prohibited, meaningthat a rider shows their skills in the first run of the day, and the slope isclosed for riding beforehand, with the location announced at the briefing.
